▶ MAKE FRIENDS, INFLUENCE PEOPLE Welcome to our CR Meme page! We intend for this meme to remain active throughout gameplay so that as new people arrive, they can hash out connections that came before their game play begins, as well as plot out new game play. Specifically, this could also be a good venue to find ship crews that are looking for new crew mates, and for prospective crew mates to find new ship crews. Please fill out the form below for your character, and then comment around to other characters! Also be sure to check back as more people filter in. |

▼ IC INFORMATION
Character name: Driver
Canon: Drive (2011 film), with cues from the novels by James Sallis
Job/Role: Civilian / hovercraft specialist in training
General Reputation:
As of now, Driver's been living in Zion for about ten months, the last six of which have been spent in apprenticeship at the dock. Here's a little expansion on his intro dossier:
Prior to extraction, the laconic young recluse known only as Driver was one of Hollywood's most talented vehicular stunt men. Also a gifted auto mechanic, he has since devoted much of his time to translating his skills into proficiency in the maintenance, repair, and operation of hovercraft technology, and continues to excel despite refusing all but the most basic spec uploads. As stated above, he works in apprenticeship with the ground crew of the main docking bay. His fellow technicians might say he's skilled, diligent, intense, kind of weird, and/or a loner. I like to imagine he's stared down at least one meathead jerk looking to pick a fight with the new guy.
When not up to his biceps in grease, Driver has been known to provide minor domestic repairs at no cost. Civilians might describe him as polite, but reserved, with a blunted affect. He favours working for people who are willing to carry on like he's part of the furniture, in part because he's there to gather knowledge by eavesdropping. He's heard some very interesting conversations.
While on paper he is considered a good candidate for ZDG placement as a pilot, operative, or both, word of a violent criminal history within the Matrix has lowered his appeal. If there is any truth to these rumours, Driver himself has yet to confirm it. (They are totally true.)
Looking For:
Mostly people who don't mind co-stars with less dialogue and/or scenes that may end up short now and then. Driver is kind of difficult in that he's not always a big talker, and tends not to seek attention because he's socially awkward – I'll try to keep him engaging, though. Is this specific enough, I don't know, I'm nervous... uhhh here:
+ He has the capacity to be a boyish sweetheart as well as a macho tough guy asshole, depending on who, when, and why. (But he's mostly impassive. Scary calm.)
+ He'd be great for any Matrix missions requiring an efficient getaway. Still needs operative training, though.
++ I'd like him to become part of a crew at some point; whether or not it lasts, we shall see.
++ Criminal/underworld connections should develop soon. He wants to think of himself as a good guy when it counts, even though he kind of isn't, so keep that in mind if your character is planning on doing a seductively shady fan dance in his direction.
++ Someone should call him kid so he can be sad about Shannon. (Everything will make him sad about Irene, so that's covered.)
Notes:
I've got some ideas for the ship and team that took care of Driver's extraction. Unless ye mods say otherwise, they should be considered a working crew with possible slots for player characters. See below for some info.
Also, his full application is over here. And here are some pictures of him.
reserved for amendments
SHIP: The Scramasax
Ship Name: Scramasax
Ship Type: Frigate, built for speed + decent firepower
Captain: Gale (NPC)
Established Crewmembers:
Roles Needed: Any/none; roles not filled by active PCs should be handwaved
Notes: This crew's focus is extraction. The NPCs above aren't active, they just exist somewhere over there. They could be absorbed by the mod team one day, or even apped as PCs by some industrious people, who knows. Iris appears, briefly and vaguely, in one of my samples.
If you're looking for a place to shove your character – other than the more detailed and probably much more comfortable Shangrila – comment here, I guess!

Re: crewmates, not exactly... Driver isn't on any crew, but it would mean Deuc is a loud blip on his radar, especially if you wanted him to be shadowy figure #2 in Driver's extraction sample. So, pretty close. He's not like buddies with the Scramasax crew, but there's definitely some minor imprinting going on with his extractors. He might also appear out of nowhere to save and/or avenge a butt if it came down to it, like the tarnished white knight he yearns to beee.
(He also silently reveres Iris from a distance, in like a
sophomorefreshman crushing on a graduate kind of way. Even though he's barely talked to her.)See also my comment below to Buick-chan for a little more of an idea of the ship's general dealings.

p.s. teach bucky mechanics too, engines don't talk and it's great. also he could use something to do with his hand
sthat isn't murdery.p.p.s. did you want in on bucky's extraction / did u want ur ship to be The Ship or did you want them to meet elseways, i'm open
no subject
You're welcome to say Bucky was yoinked by the Scramasax crew, yes! Driver wouldn't have been aboard, but he likes to stare at them when they return to the dock, and like hang around breathing the same air as Iris while pretending not to notice her... so they coulda met that way, yes. Good idea, I didn't even think of it.
The ship has unplugged more than one guy with concerning medical issues, apparently, so I'm imagining something like field surgery (if necessary) followed by actual care back in Zion – yes, no? They wouldn't do an amputation but they would've been able to keep him stable in the meantime. (I bet someone in the ZDG has a problem with this daredevil ambulance crap...)
That's kind of a weird hook, but similar shitty extraction circumstances would make D a little curious... annnd I just decided that maybe he checks in on Scramasax unplugs now and then after they're kicked out of the nest. Because he's just like that.

SO, let's do it. He ghosts around various rehab spots on occasion, so she might've seen him checking in on a baby bird or two, often without actually talking to them. Brief eye contact may have occurred at some point, if you like. (Followed by awkward retreat.) Also I am 100% sure she could make him smile.
If you can see any little threads in the above ship stuff, you are of course welcome to unravel and wind yourself up in them. :>

maybe he and kate have met around the docks/he did some mechanicsy work on the ship she crews on or something?
no subject
Since he spends a hell of a lot of time at the docks, yeah, probably! He could've been assigned to it as ground crew at some point, so she could've had a chance to meet him in his happy place, i.e. covered in grease and more or less relaxed. Enjoy your awkward conversation, Kate. And checking out his arms, I guess.
It is also possible he'll become bros with Bucky, so yes more entanglement there.

On the domestic repairs front, would Driver have accepted a request to help assemble some bunkbeds about a month before game began? Once Charles got back from a mission, he needed to modify his little apartment to contain another person and he needed those beds to be rock solid.
no subject
Aaand I'm laughing. What the hell, sure, he'd have helped... although probably made kind of a weird face about the question (who can't assemble a bed?), and didn't do much talking besides the minimum required not to, like, hit each other with planks and whatever.
It's possible the phrase "I don't wanna know" was deployed re: bed sturdiness. It's also possible he is now saving a bed-related crack for just the right time.

He just doesn't want to be woken in the middle of the night by being crushed by broken planks and a 6' + lunk.

Driver's a regular performer of maintenance when they're docked, and also eyeballs their newer unplugged now and then to see what's up with them... so yes it is entirely possible they've already seen each other, at least. I am sure further run-ins can be arranged.
