Character name: Benevenuta Crispo, alias Anna Matveyevna.
Canon: Highlander: the Series (original character)
Job/Role: Trainee, though she's been let go from the ship she was training on.

General Reputation: "Anna" - or Anya, if anybody has managed to get friendly with her - has been unplugged from her matrix for roughly one year. During that time, she has gained a reputation for being competent, efficient, and possibly unsettling; quiet, deliberate, reserved but "difficult" by temperament. She doesn't go out of her way to get along with people, although she has hit the ground running in terms of adapting to her new situation; the year at the time of her extraction from her matrix was 1782, and she's had a great deal of catching up to do. One of the first things she did was rebrand herself by scarring a rose into her hip; possibly your character is aware that subsequently she also spent a lot of time trudging back for medical attention when her heightened pain threshold and tendency to forget to care about injuries meant she'd fucked the injury up again.

She spent a lot of time going from job to job to job, beginning primarily with the historians but also spending time learning basic medical skills (in order to stop having to go and ask for help, mainly), eventually fixing on the idea of joining a ship. Her first effort was unsuccessful, and she's recently returned to Zion after being politely but firmly told she was not a suitable addition to the culture of that vessel.

Anna is not currently known for being a hella team player is what I'm saying.

Looking For: I would definitely be looking for who wants to be the captain of the ship who was all HASHTAG NOT THIS BITCH about her, that could be interesting (and not necessarily negative) CR. People who have tolerated her endless questions about how things work and why they work the way they do. Friends, maybe? Benny's not unfriendly, she's just struggling with her new life and demonstrating it mainly by trying not to acknowledge that it's an issue for her, which is SUPER SUCCESSFUL, obviously.

Notes: I don't imagine anyone actually gives a crap about her real name and I will probably refer to her interchangably, but definitely 'Anna' or 'Anya' w/r/t how other people think of her. The body she's currently in is about a month older than the time she's been unplugged for - it's one of a series of identical clones that her consciousness has been downloaded into upon her "deaths" as an Immortal in her matrix, and the original body she grew up in has been dead for roughly two centuries. Uhhhh things. Oh also she didn't speak English when she was first unplugged.

Sounds like she may have come out green/question-ask-y for Metzger's tastes and he's certainly an asshole enough to have trimmed her off the roster for it -- I expect his ship is bootcampish in a way where he cycles very new people in and out a lot to other ships, with v few kept on for the long haul. Less of a personal thing and more just him being rough on n00bs for (what he feels like is) their own good.

I'll write more along these lines in his CR meme entry I think but it is a thought!

IM INTRIGUED DEFINITELY. re: threads down below, she'll probably have been on whatever ship crew extracted skye for awkward "why are you ... not out on a ship" cr, so there is that also /WEAVES WEBS

mostly her problem in work environment is less the questions (she'd limit herself to directly relevant, and save up INCESSANT DEMANDING INQUIRY for situations where she feels less beholden to prove herself) and more her grand total of absolutely no experience of working in a team environment and struggling to integrate vs just become competent at tasks while not talking to anyone. the lone wolf assassin mentality not super useful to ship crew culture, it turns out??? WHO KNEW

That works just as well -- failure to communicate is more in line with the sort've offense that'd have him regularly grilling her/drilling teamwork into her head as opposed to just passing her off to someone else bc of irritating questions.

yeah, i like the idea of this cr a lot, welcome to becoming someone penciled in To Prove Herself To. she will not be caught dead needing validation but tbh the only reason that's never been a thing for her before is because she's always had validation and her entire world reinforced her superiority complex. the fall from grace has a hard fuckin landing. so maybe this is the ship she started on and is like GOAL: EARN RESPECT IN FUTURE about?? not an acrimonious parting, more a blunt list of things she needs to improve and her not-entirely-grudgingly taking that list on board.

If you want some misinformation fed her way, Captain is an excellent source of explaining things effusively but badly; in other words, they will happily spout whatever comes to mind to any of Anna's questions. Captain is also quite happy to cross the boundaries of grumpy people and can get into personal space like a hot knife in butter, though what the end results of that look like...

In other words, this is not the captain you were looking for Anna, but maybe it's the one you DESERVE~!

On a more serious note, I know that this character is a loopy dastard, so if that's not your cup of tea, I won't splash it in your face and I'll be sure to keep Captain clear of Anna unless you need 'em for something. Give me a holler if you have any interest in some clowning around or grating on Anna's edges!

i suspect her combination of blandness/suspicion will make her a boring target of that kind of thing, but while LOOPY CRAZY is not usually my bag i rarely say never to possible cr! so i am certainly open to finding opportunities to do something >]

for instance if her space is invaded and she doesn't like it, while she's still at less than her full capacity of murder, she will fall back on older and simpler tactics like STARt CRYING because historically benevenuta has exploited the hell out of being pretty, petite and ladylike. NO ONE EVER SEES THE MURDER COMING...

I'm torn between whether Captain would look around for spilled milk and then chastise her for wetting such a sweet face, or whether they would join in because they thought it was a 'who cries the best' contest. They're really strange sometimes that way! On the plus side, if you want someone to practice murders, I'd be down for the negative crit up to injuries which can be recovered from. Cap's got to learn that their blanket of protection from their matrix doesn't follow them into the real, and friendly punches in the face are the long, slow way. An attempted murder might at least knock them into a realization that being hurt is not something they can magic away!

hahahaha nah - she's not casually violent, it's v. difficult to get her to hit boiling point enough to genuinely lash out.

In which case we'll just have to see how the cookie crumbles. I don't know that Captain would push any one person so hard as to lash out without a very good reason. Good reasons for them might be slightly different than good reasons for most people, but there's nothing I can think of in canon that would cause them to just start picking on her for no reason. I'll save it for if they wind up crossing paths and making dire enemies of one another or something!

It so happens that Jay's from his world's equivalent of Russia, so I think there's at least one potential hook for CR with Anna, there!

I got clearance from the mods for Jay to learn English with some speed due to uploads, but I think he'll still want regular practise!!

yeah, that's basically what i'd been assuming for anya - that she's learned a lot more than she would've at this rate, but it's not intuitive or natural to her yet, she doesn't have the degree of fluency she does in other languages :]

I can't offer that Deuc was involved when she was first unplugged, but I would definitely like for them to interact or have interacted and maybe be friendly (though I would see how that actually pans out in threading).

i feel there's a strong likelihood they would get along! benny's always loved a good redemption arc, and she can relate to "......................i'm HUMAN, this is bs".

also as an assassin raised in a death cult she takes the hardline view that if you're beyond redemption it's time for murder

so while she generally didn't make the call about who gets murdered (just, you know, carried it out), she's sort of merciless at a certain point. AN INTERESTING DEFINITION OF GOOD INFLUENCE MAYBE.

Oh man this gets better and better. Yes I think that would definitely make things interesting! I doubt he'll have talked much about his past previously, but I'm sure there'll be a way to get it to come up at some point.

Johanna is also not a team player and also has gone from job to job (to job to job) before ending up with Mr Metzger. spying on your other CR comments - if Anna was trimmed from the crew preJohanna, or even if they were briefly part of the crew together - I think that could be a cool hook, just bc Johanna is semi concerned about her own fate in getting kicked off of unplugging missions permanently. she unfortunately has a ton of pride too so she wouldnt like seek advice but maybe we could work something out.....?

I ALSO DESIRE THIS CR tbh anya is unlikely to offer any advice, at this point, but i think we might be able to work something out - idk if through this specifically is the most workable bc she's prickly and on the defensive and if she feels like she's being examined for her failures she is liable to suddenly no hablo ingles so sry. a circuitous route may be best???

and yeah I think Johanna would at least try to be subtle about it. she's a pretty good actor (blah blah convinced everyone she was weak and scared blah blah killed them blah blah blah) so she'd try to present it as something else. even if it's just hey let's get what passes for a drink around here hot stuff or. something. her secret would be to learn why Anna got the boot but she gets prickly so keeping it on the DL.

tbh it's probably not even that hard to find out, tho - her prickliness coupled with her reserve coupled with her tendency to lone wolf it, johanna can probably draw her own conclusions pretty fast about what anya struggled with in terms of being on a ship + the fact the nidhoggr tends to cycle newbs in and out relatively frequently
