Fellow wannabe pirate!! I hope to eventually have Captain meander Irkalla-wards, though possibly not for a while. Cap's got a similar rep but not because of intentional dickery (...at least so anyone can guess); largely they are annoying due to their cheerful confidence and tendency to ramble, a little bit illegal in their tendency to ignore common laws or unspoken agreements, and largely harmless save the occasional scalding tea in the face.

...So maybe they're not exactly similar. It takes all kinds, right?

In any case, being able to get involved in the criminal underground would be kind of amazing. Captain would 100% fall for the 'Star Lord' schtick and march to Peter's tune to fetch items and things -- under the expectation that Cap would get some juicy deal out of it. Depending on how good Peter is at milking an ongoing lie/fairytale narrative, Cap would dig themselves deeper and happily. Just gotta make this character believe that it's their idea and Peter is golden.

In any case, Captain will tell him that his fauna/flora friends were as real as can be. His staunchest defender is a mug that shoots lazer-beams for goodness sakes. ;w;

Wow yes please feed his ego, that will end horribly. Peter won't necessarily go heavy on the manipulation, but he will absolutely talk himself up just enough to sound cool while also holding back just enough to seem super mysterious.
