I suspect that Captain (this character, not a captain of a ship) and Cage would probably do little more than glance off one another. Cage seems opaque by methods of blending in, while Captain is opaque by strictly the opposite! If yours ever wants a tough nut to crack, Captain is it, though I think that until I am able to move them along from out of touch and prankstery to a little more grounded, it might be a wait.

On the other hand, Captain is adept at observation as well, even if they are terrible at letting on. If you need anybody to cry wolf, as it were, who better than the bleating tones of an apparent idiot? If Cage's mysterious promotion has anything to do with some amoral happenings on his part and you want that to slip, Captain's red-flag-twirling would probably do nothing but reinforce Cage's authority. In any case, I suspect you're probably not going that direction with your character, but just wanted to put that out there if you were!

i think you are correct with regard to these two dynamics

HOWEVER

i'm putting that idea in my back pocket because i think it could be relevant later but not right away. i dig it, though, and in general would enjoy to make an interaction occur whether Cage likes it or not. possibly he will take interest in the incidents surrounding Captain's extraction, as well.

With regards to the extraction background: we're saying that the RA matrix was an experimental set-up on the part of the machines, some distance from the area where the current game-play is happening. Perhaps following machine activity and discovering a new pod tower, the first ship that went to investigate only came limping back with their Operator; the rest had died in virtu during the big old die-off.

The second crew to go out is briefly touched on by Dilly in Snippy's application; Captain of the name of Hammer went on behest of the Operator, who said that a powerful program urged them to come back to extract a human who was causing a lot of problems and would be better off in the real. Hammer extracted Snippy by accident. Third try was the charm and Captain was extracted more recently! In any case, Cage might have better luck talking with Snippy about the strangeness that happened to wreck nearly an entire tower; he may know less about the shenanigans going on in their Matrix but who is entirely more sane.
