Probably crossed paths at some point and don't get on? They've got some similarity in missing the power/control offered in-matrix, but I doubt they'd ever get past personality clash enough to realise that!

I think you are right and I think I like this.

he's two years out, right? she's only been out for a year and a half so he's got seniority, and she was really in a bad way when she first was unplugged (obviously). she's calmed down since then in some small slight ways, but if they had a run-in at first when she was nastier she definitely holds a grudge. I can work with a general THAT GUY EW feeling, unless you want some specific firm encounter(s)?

Yes, he's two years out! But he spent a good chunk of that being a reclusive farmhand while he got his head together, so idk that he would've encountered her at the start. They were both unplugged by Kate's ship, so there might have been some reason for crossed paths later on there. Or just random encounter. But yeah I'd love just general sneering at each other, subtle or not, maybe even to like 'love to hate that guy' levels depending on now much familiarity they have.

maybe we can just leave it at random encounter, since I don't know that there's like, unplugged-by-this-ship reunions or anything. although now I kind of want there to be. she does have pretty regular CR with Kate so I could at least say that maybe they saw Deuc in passing one time and Kate was like "oh yeah, that guy, I unplugged him too", casual gossip style. that might be enough for Johanna to try to start a conversation at least, but she's bad at conversation, and she'd quick to take offense... so that could get us to initial love-to-hate-that-guy CR? or at least a step toward that because I personally love love-to-hate.

Hang on I'm gonna link Cass to this thread to see what she says about Kate's involvement. Kate knows more about Deuc's past as well due to unplugging him, so Johanna might get some snippets there (which may contribute to their dynamic) depending on how much Kate's likely to share!

uuuuuuuuummmmm i'm flexible? i think kate being like 'oh yeah that guy my ship unplugged him too' is a definite possibility, if you guys would like some other snippets to get wrangled out of her I could probably make that happen? I don't think she's likely to just spill his whole story at the drop of a hat because that seems like bad form but if pressed a little she probably wouldn't hide that she's kind of wary of him, if that helps?

but yes good I think leaving it at Kate being generally wary would be a good enough start toward something and if I need confirmation of specific details that they discussed, etc. - I can always ask later. general is good for now. so yes! this works for me if it works for koke!
