▶ APPLICATION STATUS: CLOSED Applications are closed indefinitely. Please review our RULES page for our guidelines surrounding which characters we accept applications for. We will respond to your application as soon as possible. In the event that you receive a revision, we will request that you submit your revisions within three days. If you require an extension, please request one by commenting back with how much time you need. We do not accept challenge applications, so please check that no applications of your prospective character have been reserved for the first five days of app round, or submitted for application. Submit an application by commenting to this page with a link to your application posted in your journal. State in the subject header your character's name, canon, and whether they are reserved or not. UNPLUGGED | FREE BORN UNPLUGGED OOC Name: Your name. BASIC PROFILE Name: The character's name. Please use Western order, [Firstname] [Lastname]. OVERVIEW Personality: Please provide a detailed overview of your character's personality. This will provide us with insight as to how the character works, as well as demonstrate your own understanding. Please be as detailed as you like, and we expect a minimum of 500 words. If your character has had significant amount of time since becoming unplugged, please also elaborate on the personality and psychological changes they have endured, their attitude towards the Matrix and the world around them, and anything else of note. Please demonstrate a clear and recognisable progression between how they were before and how they are now. Matrix: Use this section to describe for us the Matrix your character came from, and their time within it. We do not require an extensive history section, and if you are a canon character, feel free to link one instead and just focus on setting. If you are apping an original character, you can give us the major highlights of your character's personal history and its place in the Matrix you are apping from, and supplement it with setting details. Please assume we have never heard of your canon/setting before, unless it's contemporary Earth. Details we would like to know include technology level (medieval, contemporary, space age, etc.), the presence of the supernatural or magic or lack thereof, the political climate if that's of any significance. This is also a good opportunity to offer ideas about this canon as a Matrix, such as the presence of Agents and so on. This is not an essential part of the application, but may help us in the future. You may link to or use a setting summary that someone else has written in their application (with permission) or has been collaboratively written, so long as that setting is from a relevant perspective to your character. We may ask for elaboration in revisions. Real World: Please describe your character's time and place in the real world. If they have only recently been extracted, this can be a very short section. If your character has been in the real world for a substantive amount of time, please provide a brief history of what they have done since their extraction. This can be as extensive as you like, but do not feel compelled to write a detailed essay -- simply the significant events and milestones that are relevant to your character will do. Such milestones might be events that inform your character's personality in a big way, such as traumatic injury or death of loved ones, as well as career related milestones, such as how long they have been working in a given profession, and where they're at now. Visit the Reality page for more information. ABILITIES AND SKILLS Anomalies: Use this section to describe any kind of ability your character has that is beyond that of a baseline human. This could be magical, or superpowered, or describe any advantages that come from being non-human in their Matrix. While your character will no longer have these powers in the real world, they will be a factor when it comes to journeys back into their own Matrix, or even that of others… Skillset: Skills that are within the realms of baseline human. Sharp shooting, kung fu, computer hackery, university qualifications, or a deep fount of human empathy. Anything remarkable that can be applied to the real world, if they are combat oriented, it would be good to go into some detail about their capabilities. Upload Capabilities: This section is to help determine your character's potential for taking on new skills and information through simulation and training programs. While any program can be uploaded into anyone's mind, not all minds are created equal in terms of what kinds of programs it is particularly well wired for. You start with ten points. If your character possesses inherent anomalies, at least two points must be allotted to the anomalies section. Please distribute your points into the categories below. This weighting will be used during gameplay. Anomalous Skills: Your character's capacity to learn exceptional superpowers or magic according to the demands and rules of a given Matrix. Bear in mind that upon entering a Matrix on specific missions, your character will be equipped with a basic set of skills tailored to that Matrix before the weighting is taken into consideration, so please don't feel you'll be missing out if one is ranked low! For more details about how uploads and skills will work, please visit Uploads. SAMPLES Please provide two samples. One must be a log sample, and the second can be either a log sample or a network post. If you are choosing two log samples, it is suggested you show contrasting tones, such as a violent situation against a peaceful one, or samples that demonstrate two important personality traits. If you opt for a network post, it should give us a clear idea of their voice. At least one sample must be based in game. A second can either be also based in game, set within their canon, or a link to an existing thread (except for fourth-wall breaking style threads, like Dear Mun). Some suggested prompts are as follows:
FREE BORN OOC Name: Your name. Game-specific insights we would like to see are attitudes and perceptions towards the world around them, and you can pick which aspects are most relevant to elaborate on. Some suggestions include the current conflict between man and machine, the military, the vagabonds beyond their borders, the Matrix itself, the unplugged, and so on. Background: Please provide an overview of your character's personal history. This should include significant milestones important to your character, and supplementary minor information to demonstrate how your character came to be as described in their personality. Skillsets: What are they good at? Piloting? Operating Matrix missions? Engineering underground farms? Acting as a soldier in the heavy weapons infantry? Working as a communications officer? Braiding hair? Devote this section to their practical strengths, and if you are making them combat oriented, it would be good to go into some detail about their capabilities.
