▶ MAKE FRIENDS, INFLUENCE PEOPLE

Welcome to our CR Meme page!

We intend for this meme to remain active throughout gameplay so that as new people arrive, they can hash out connections that came before their game play begins, as well as plot out new game play. Specifically, this could also be a good venue to find ship crews that are looking for new crew mates, and for prospective crew mates to find new ship crews.

Please fill out the form below for your character, and then comment around to other characters! Also be sure to check back as more people filter in.

▶ STEPHEN BLOOM

▼ OOC CONTACT
Your name: MJ
Contact: [personal profile] keelahselai

▼ IC INFORMATION
Character name: Stephen Bloom
Canon: The Brothers Bloom
Job/Role: His true callings are and always will be storyteller and scoundrel, but for the last few months he's been working as a farmhand because he is not a freeloader, damn it, he worked hard for every penny he ever stole, etc.

General Reputation: Since being pulled from the precipice of death in an extraction/rescue carefully timed to avoid both Russian mobsters and little brothers, Stephen has been kicking around Zion for about a year. He has not been handling things well, but due to a never let them see you flinch philosophy and naturally irrepressible good humor, the only real sign of that is how shiftless he is. Most people who know him here have probably not seen many signs of the ambition or brilliance he displayed in his Matrix. He spends a lot of time drinking. But he's very personable! He gets out, he smiles, he listens to the storytellers and asks people questions about their lives without ever saying more than necessary about his own. And since there isn't any actual money on the line, if he cheats you at cards, he'll probably admit to it afterwards and show you how.

Looking For:

Acquaintances! Many of them! Stephen is very talkative, friendly, and good at reading people, but he tends to skim along the surface of relationships. He'll remember the name of anyone he's ever met in passing and always seem glad to see them, he'll join anyone for a drink if asked, and he's keeping a mental catalog of reputations, skills, and potential uses out of habit--anything about your character that is public knowledge, he probably knows or is on his way to learning, aiming to (re-)secure his position as the guy who always knows a guy.

Criminals. His true people. Come here. Stephen is on the honorable end of the thievery spectrum, typically nonviolent, etc., but his morality still skews toward taking people for whatever they're worth and not being sorry about it. Also, since money is useless, I have vague ambitions about pushing Stephen (and Bloom!! hi Bloom) toward dealing in information, whether about other settlements or the machines or whatever.

Programmer(s). Stephen has a lot of imagination but zero technical skills. He's likely to latch on to someone who can program simulations, either to try to make them write what he wants to see or to teach him how to do it himself. Or both.

Extraction CR. Russian gangsters were involved. It was probably pretty fun.

• Anything else, I'm easy.

Notes: If you have CR with Bloom, you get CR with Stephen whether you want it or not. If he decides you're all right, he'll probably try to arrange playdates; if he decides you're not, he might to trying to gouge your eyeballs out. I'm sorry. I don't make the rules. App is here, gif is here:

so where do weird assassins rank on the scale of ok/not ok friends for Bloom, for reference

and/or could we have a terrible misunderstanding b/c imagine stephen & noodle-armed bucky fighting
dostoevsky: (Default)

[personal profile] dostoevsky 2015-03-02 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god noodle arm Bucky is the saddest image.

Fortunately Stephen wouldn't give a damn, given the last guy he beat up on Bloom's behalf was like 70 years old and used a cane. (But was also REALLY EVIL etc.)

It probably would take a misunderstanding v. just Bucky being an assassin, since Stephen and Bloom grew up in the underworld and so on and so forth, but we should definitely arrange one. :|a

yesss. i'm fine with just kind of waiting for an opportune moment. bucky does tend to not notice when he's doing things that could easily make people nervous, like idk coming at people with weapons in hand, here bloom let me show you my shiv, etc., so. misunderstandings could happen.

HI.

Does Kate want to have helped unplug him??? His other option was (sorry to spoil the movie but you know how it is--or STOP READING NOW and come back once you've seen it) bleeding out all alone in an abandoned theater in St. Petersburg, so she wouldn't have to feel very bad about it.

And I think they both have a lot of similar feelings about the real v. not real issue so. c:

wow spoilers

but yes that'd be great. she'd probably run into him/check up on him occasionally because that's how she rolls, and if encouraged would probably sit and have a drink and tell him stories from her matrix and others and they can someday talk about real/not real?

eta: she's been around longer than most pcs so possibly helpful for introductions/basic 'oh yeah that guy he's the guy who--' or 'you want to go see so and so' type stuff to give him a base for his network?

Ooh Kate, such a helper! That's all perfect.

I am also possibly looking for someone to tip Stephen off to knowing Bloom is in Zion—handwaved is fine, it'd just get her a namedrop, if you want! She might have seen him in passing during extraction or something, or have her ear to the ground better about who is being pulled out, idk, and he would be more likely to ask someone who already probably knew he had a brother to keep an eye out than someone who didn't. If you're not interested I can use NPCs though. 8D

Wait I forgot she unplugged him so she'd know he's a conman. Maybe somewhat less helpful with info about other people in that case beyond basic public knowledge. But she'll still hang out and tell him stories about weird adventures! And yes, keep an eye and ear out around the docks for his brother and give him a heads up when she hears about a dude with a huge nose named Bloom.

But he's a cute con artist.

No it's fine, HE'LL FORGIVE HER for being stingy with other info if she gives him this very important one piece of info.

He is, so when he asks for too much she will give him a friendly eyerolly Look and tell him to do his own homework. (And that if he ruins the life of anyone who isn't awful she'll make him regret it.)

I'm suddenly a little sorry I have Jay here and not his sister, because Rook is the amoral criminal of the family.

Regardless! Offering Jay up as a drinking buddy, for sure.

ALAS ALACK but no don't be sorry, Jay seems great! Absolutely drinking buddies!!! I think there are a lot of connections we could build on, probably, including the fact they both had assholes for mentors and they both grew up poor but hide it. And they both have close siblings! And so on and so forth.

Deuc was also working as a farmhand for a pretty long time, though I think the timelines don't quite match up enough to have them working alongside each other, we could possibly use that to have had them meet? Or just crossed paths in the city sometime.
dostoevsky: (Default)

[personal profile] dostoevsky 2015-03-03 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh! How long ago did Deuc stop? If there was a litttttle bit of overlap he could have showed Stephen the ropes before quitting, maybe. Otherwise path-crossing definitely works.

It'd have to be several months ago, I think. He signed up to the ZDG and started training there, so I don't think he could've helped out on the farms still even if he wasn't on a ship yet :c

Please cheat Wanda at cards and then teach her the trickster method involved please please !! She probably reads tarot (if she can find/make a deck) but is not familiar with conventional card games.

Ab so lute ly.

In exchange please (maybe someday idk if it would take trust and if so how much) talk to Stephen about probability manipulation so once he's ready to make mischief in Matrices he can poke and prod her about coming along.

He'd be interested in tarot too.

That would be delightful, tbh. And in line with stuff I've had her do in other iterations, actually!

Whatever she learns from him she will use on other people in a gently trolly fashion, so he may create a monster, btw.

Emma reads people much the same way and before the whole sheriff thing she was kinda a thief so commonalities???

also Mark Fluffalo I want things somehow please, ty. Selling information might be a good gig, Emma might be willing to inform him about things if she figures he's good at keeping said informants hush hush.
